Blizzard Forces Gamers to Reveal Real ID

Blizzard takes away anonymous chat forums as of July 27.

If you've been on any gaming forums lately, you might have noticed they tend to get downright mean and nasty. I'm shocked at how people speak to one another and I've always chalked it up to people being able to hide behind the safety of anonymity. Gamers on the Blizzard message board will no longer be able to hide as Blizzard has decided to do away with character only names. Soon gamers will be forced to use their real names in addition to character names, if they chose, and be faced with the consequences if they chose to offend someone.

The new "real name" rules start July 27 and all members posting will need to have their Real ID or identities displayed in order to use Blizzard's official forums. Blizzard is taking the stance that by making individuals take responsibility for what they say, perhaps they will think before making crude or inappropriate comments.

If you don't agree with the new rules set forth by Blizzard, will this make you stop posting on the forum altogether? And if so, what exactly were you posting pre-Real ID anyway?
