A calm, homely residence where dad feels safe.
A calm, caring home where consistent caregivers have helped Dad feel safer, more social and well supported. My dad has been a resident in A Touch of Care Senior Home for 6 months. It was difficult to select a home because he has a wheelchair, and he calls for assistance with transfers, medications, bathing, and dressing. We sought a smaller, single level residence where the caregivers would learn his preferences.
He is quiet and sometimes does not alert us when feeling uncomfortable. Before leaving rehab, the home was provided with his medication list and mobility instructions and upon arrival, they familiarized themselves with his wheelchair route, bathroom access, and transfer needs.
This preparation was significant to us and helped with the apprehensiveness of the move. A reminder that sticks with me is a staff member who observed how much Dad loved to be outdoors.
She started to place his chair in the shade of the back yard everyday, and even assisted him to make video calls when the camera on his phone became too complex for him. Just small kindnesses like this made a difference, and dad has become more vocal, less shut in his room, and no longer forgets to take his tablets.
Staff usually will assist him but not pressure him to eat quickly. communal eating is observed in the eating area with the staple, rice, and variety of foods from the soup to the steamed vegetables. The house is clean, calm and homely rather than institutional. Our experience has not been perfect. Once while visiting, an unaccustomed caregiver did not seem familiar with Dad's transfer pattern on the first attempt, making him uncomfortable.
After we questioned this, the transfer pattern was clearly clarified, and a copy was given to the new caregivers to review before helping him. Communication has been easier once we designated one sibling as the point person. I would recommend other families to question how the routines transfer between shifts and how often the carers change. dad's consistency has been such a huge help to him.

A Quiet, Caring Home for Grandma's Final Months.
My grandmother moved into A Touch of Care about four months ago, and I've spent enough evenings there now to feel comfortable saying what it's actually been like. We chose it because she needed daily personal help along with hospice support, but we didn't want a big clinical building. We wanted somewhere quiet, where visiting felt natural. That's what we found.
Going in, I worried about a lot. Her pain, the nights when she got anxious, whether the caregivers and her outside hospice team would stay on the same page, and how they'd handle things as her appetite fell off. Before she settled in, the home, our family, and the hospice nurses went over her medications, her equipment, and her comfort plan together. We brought photographs, her own blankets, and the music she recognizes.
One evening she got frightened. A caregiver pulled a chair up beside her, put on her favorite music, and phoned us so she could hear familiar voices until she calmed down. I think about that night a lot.
The staff handle her bathing, dressing, meals, and repositioning. The clinical hospice care stays with the outside team, which is worth understanding before you decide. As eating got harder, they made softer food in smaller portions. She likes sitting in the shaded backyard, listening to music and watching us play cards. Her room and bedding are kept clean.
When her nutritional drink ran out once, they bought more that same day and started a written supply list we could all keep an eye on.
Two things I'd tell another family: get clear on which care belongs to the home and which to hospice, and settle on one family contact so nothing gets muddled. She's calmer now, and she sleeps better. That's what matters to us.

She is in good hands.
From our very first meeting, the team was kind, professional, and understanding. Our family immediately felt more at ease knowing Mom was in good hands. The front desk and family liaison staff have been especially helpful and never make us feel like we’re asking too much. In just two and a half weeks, we’ve already seen wonderful progress in Mom. We couldn’t be happier with the care she has received.

A warm, homelike board-and-care.
When Mum needed help with her medication, bathing and dressing, we knew a big community would overwhelm her. A Touch of Care is a six-resident home, and that smaller scale felt closer to an ordinary house than an institution, which is exactly what she needed. Still, we worried. We were afraid she'd lose her independence and end up alone in her room all day, and her diabetes and shrinking appetite were on our minds too.
Ten months in, most of those fears have eased. Before she moved, the staff went through her medications, her diet, her mobility and her usual routine with us. We brought her favorite chair, her own bedding and some photos, and a caregiver coaxed her to join everyone at the dinner table that very first night. They help her with what she can't do on her own but let her handle the rest, which matters more to her than I can say.
The small things tell me they're paying attention. One caregiver noticed her new shoes were rubbing her heel and called us before it turned into a sore. They learned she likes oatmeal and fruit in the mornings and kept her diabetic diet on track. She eats more regularly now, seems calmer, and actually spends time with the other residents over movie nights, card games and short walks in the garden. Her room and the shared spaces are always tidy.
Early on, two pieces of clothing got mixed up in the laundry, but they found them and added clearer labels so it hasn't happened since. If your relative dreads large facilities, a home like this is worth a look. Ask exactly how meals, medication and family updates are handled.
