Help When She Needs It, Privacy When She Doesn’t.
My sister, Marlene, has lived at Whitlock Place for five months. She wanted her own apartment, but arthritis was making housekeeping, shopping, transportation, and some personal care harder to manage. Her biggest fear was losing privacy and being pushed into a full schedule of activities she did not want.

Like friends.
We’ve gotten to know all of the caregivers, and honestly, we couldn’t ask for a better group. They visit four times a day, arrive when they’re supposed to, and take care of everything that needs doing. They keep the place tidy, make sure the client is safe, and always lock up before leaving. What I appreciate most is that they don’t treat each visit like a checklist. They stay for a chat, complete their daily notes, and check one last time to see if anything else is needed before heading out. They’re dependable, easy to talk to, and very good at what they do.

Fantastic care.
I’ve been really impressed with the care provided. The staff are kind, patient, and actually listen to what the person wants. They make an effort to understand individual routines and preferences instead of assuming the same approach will work for everyone. Our family is kept informed whenever something changes or a concern comes up. They don’t just point out a problem. They work with us to figure out what can be done. Their support has made a noticeable difference, and we’re incredibly grateful for the time and effort they put in every day.

Dad Is Saying Yes Again.
My dad has lived at Whitlock Place for seven months. After my mom died, he grew lonely at home, stopped eating regular meals, and needed help managing medication. Assisted living made sense, but we worried he would stay in his apartment and say no to every invitation.
During the move, staff asked about his military service, favorite movies, and habits. They introduced him to another veteran naturally and without making it feel arranged. The activities director personally invited him to a men’s social and saved him a seat beside someone with similar interests. Dad did not join in right away, but the gentle approach worked.
Dad is now much more talkative and looks forward to eating with other residents. He enjoys breakfast, movie nights, veterans’ events, and sitting outside near the gazebo. The caregivers are attentive without hovering, and the medication support and regular meals give his day structure while still letting him make his own choices. His apartment has also been kept in good condition.

There was one mix-up with a dining order, but the server apologized, replaced the meal quickly, and checked his preferences afterward.

Half De-caf.
My mom is 81, and the word that best describes her is stubborn, in the good way. She wanted help with her medication, showering, and getting around, but she was terrified that moving somewhere with caregivers would mean handing over her whole life. My worry was the same as hers. Would they take over and do everything for her, or would they let her stay herself?
Ten months in, I have my answer. The support she gets is respectful and unhurried. Staff step in where she needs them and step back everywhere else, so she's still involved in her own day. The move itself set that tone. The care coordinator went through her routine with us, and nobody rushed us while we arranged her photographs, her favorite chair, and the things that make a room hers.
The small stuff is what convinced me. One caregiver noticed Mom likes half-decaf in the morning and started having it ready when she came in for breakfast. They also picked up that she'd rather choose her own clothes before anyone helps her get dressed. Those aren't things anyone told them to do. They just paid attention.
